The Artisans Behind this Process
Our Maestros Mezcaleros are the heartbeat of our craft, linking ancient traditions to the soul of the agave. With every move, they channel knowledge handed down through generations.
These artisans don’t just work with tools—they bond with the plant, unlocking its secrets and quirks. Together, the Maestro and the agave are the ultimate partners in crime.
Making mezcal is an art that can’t be tamed. It’s a wild dance of climate, soil, and time—turning each batch into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
Behind every bottle is a story of relentless dedication, unshakable commitment, and raw passion—a sensory journey that tells a unique story, not just a drink.

Our Maestros Mezcaleros

Every morning, before the fire, smoke, and agave took over, Epigmenio Martínez would pour a drop of mezcal on the ground—a quiet tribute to the earth. It wasn’t just a ritual; it was respect.
He wasn’t chasing numbers. He was carrying on a legacy—crafting mezcal like his ancestors did: slow, honest, smoky. No shortcuts, no filters. Just spirit, time, and soul in every drop.
Though Epigmenio has passed, his legacy lives on. Today, his son Edgar Martínez continues the tradition, honoring his father’s craft with every batch of mezcal he creates.
We are proud to work with two exceptional Maestros Mezcaleros—one, a guardian of tradition; the other, a young firestarter rewriting the rules.
In perfect complicity with the agave, they craft mezcal that is both heritage and revolution in every drop.
Age doesn’t matter. Mastery does.

Edgar Garcia, Cómplice’s 20-year-old mezcal maestro from San Baltazar Guelavila, honors his family’s storied heritage through each distillation. Driven by the passion passed down from both grandparents and his father’s careful guidance, Edgar flipped the script—grabbing alambiques, building his own joint, and diving headfirst into the smoky craft.
His approach fuses ancestral methods with youthful boldness, offering an adventurous mezcal experience that’s as timeless as it is edgy.
